PROCESS

From cut cocoon to refined silk protein.

Our protein ingredients start the same way: cut cocoons — a by-product of sericulture — degummed in hot water, with no chemicals, into sericin liquor and fibroin fibre.

  1. 01FEEDSTOCK
Cut cocoon shells in wooden bowl

    Cut cocoons.

A by-product of sericulture. Not a purpose-farmed input — upcycled instead of discarded. Sourced close to where the silk is actually produced, in Karnataka.

  2. 02DEGUMMING
    Stainless extraction tank in lab

    Gentle water degumming.

Cut cocoons are degummed in hot water, separating into two streams: sericin liquor and fibroin fibre. One step, two protein streams from the same feedstock.

    STREAM A

    Sericin liquor

    Fibroin raw fibre
    STREAM B

    Fibroin fibre

  3. 03HYDROLYSIS
Hydrolysed silk protein powder in a glass dish

    Hydrolysis to set molecular weight

    Method on request

  4. 04ENZYME CHOICE
    Enzyme peptide molecular structure

    Sets molecular weight. Sets function.

Enzyme choice at the next step sets molecular weight, and therefore function, producing a whole family of grades from one process.

  5. 05REFINEMENT
Refined silk protein powder in petri dish

    Refined for cosmetic applications.

From there the material is refined into cosmetic-grade ingredients across ten documented target molecular weight specifications, available to customers today.

IN SUMMARY

One degumming step. Eight cosmetic grades, from material that would otherwise be discarded.
